Autism

Anyone can call themselves an Autism Specialist. This is one of the reasons that IIES established the Certified Autism Specialist.  The Certified Autism Specialist™ credential recognizes that the designate has met industry standards for effective practice.  

IIES offers two levels of designations that inlcude professionals and caretakers.
Having the Designations behind your name will provide you with professional credibility that can bring job security by helping your school meet IDEA compliance. Organization's who hire a CAS will look forward to the respect they receive from families as well as donors.  It will show that you meet industry standards and have the competency to better the lives of those with autism.



Qualifications
1. Received a Masters Degree. Area of study can include human development, applied behavior analysis, education, early childhood education, special education, speech/language     pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, psychology, or related field.

2. Two years consistent experience working in your field (2,000 hours)

3. Must earn 14 CEU hours relating to autism,  every 2 years for certification renewal.


Assessment Tool: The applicant must use an assessment tool recognized by IIES.   

Areas of Competency: Must agree to abide by the nine autism areas of competency and code of ethics.

IIES is the certifying body to the CAS. The CAS is earned and maintained by attending autism conferences, workshops and CE programs.





 

Qualifications
1. Person who has a Bachelors Degree in Education or works in a school setting.

2. Person who has documented 40 hours of supervision with direct service supporting an individual with autism: school, organization, caretaker, program or education workshops

3. Person attended a CAS qualifying and approved conference, on-line program, or University program
(14 hours minimum)

Continued Field Experience: Must maintain 100 clock hours of direct service supporting individuals with autism per year. 

Areas of Competency: Must agree to abide by the nine autism areas of competency and code of ethics.

IIES is the accrediting body to the AEP. The AEP may be earned by attending autism conferences, workshops and CE programs.
